Captive Hearts

Captive Hearts

Crash and burn through torpid night,
Anticipates a shallow grave.
Not even a modicum of light -
Not even strongest prayers can save.

But blackest night adopts you still -
And blessed are the broken.
Our misery burns cold and free,
From all that's left unspoken.

Lately there is no believing -
Not a thought, nor dream worth keeping,
Not a heart that isn't leaving -
Not a soul to hear us breathing.

Through endless days and crying hours,
Too caught up with worldly powers.
My love forgets to bring me flowers -
Captive hearts in cold, high towers.

On Transplanting:

This is how I felt about moving to Tennessee.  Thankfully, my sentence here soon shall end!

On Transplanting…

Beyond the shadow of a doubt -
Where corners hide uncertain fears,
My heart lies torn and slowly shatters -
A dreaded beginning draws ever near.

Choices ripe with steadfast daggers,
Await me in unconquered place.
Controlled, contrived, complacent smiles
Shall mask my now crestfallen face.

Patience, courage, see me through,
Weary heart, must find the will
To flee from homeland security,
Shadow dreams I now must kill.

I welcome risk and weather falls,
Bruised, not beaten and soon shall rise –
Above the shadows, above the cold,
Petrifying this part that dies.

Faiytale Weaver

Fairytale Weaver

Fairytale weaver, wistful believer,
An unfed fever - myth-wielding conceiver.
Set down as sunset’s perfection fades,
“Fear not,” - the deathly, pale moon serenades.
The sun’s chosen spark shall awaken the dawn,
While Earth sees only a sacrificial pawn.
As strength to a king, the queen’s steady heart,
Omits crushing spaces, as weakness apart.
…And so they danced into the night.
By firefly stars, and lady moon burning bright.
Weaving beauty from all that once fueled her tears -
Backed with the scar-notes of 10,000 years.

When cloud fingers float her back down to the Earth,
The first weary sun eye winks to her rebirth.

Refusing to Perish

Refusing to Perish

A distant thunder rumbles through me,
Lightning electrifies my frozen veins.
Rain saturates my weary soul,
Feels like a Tornado - bound by chains.

Winding winds extinguish the fire,
Of my wayward and wanton heart,
This storm, this catastrophe never ceases!
Tighter and tighter - it tears me apart.

Each thrust, backed by a harsh monsoon,
An inquisition I can never escape...
Sand blinds my eyes, too weak to stand,
My body, reduced to a poor, mangled shape.

Refusing to Perish - I struggle to feet,
ReFusing to Perish - I stumble and fall -
Amidst the storm, I shall prevail!
Not ready, but willing to face any wall.

Great Quotes:

Sister Juana De La Cruz (a nun with TENACITY, justifiably referred to as "The Bridge to Enlightenment") :

"Or who the greater quilt does win,
... She who sins because she's paid,
Or he who pays so he may sin?"

Author Unknown:

"A peacock that sits on it's tail feathers is just another turkey."

POE: IF YOU WERE HERE

"If you were here
I know that you would
Truly be amazed
At what's become of what you made
If you were here
You would know how I treasured every day
How every single word you spoke
Echo's in me like a memory of hope

When you were here
You could not feel the value that I placed
On every look that crossed your face
When you were here
I did not know just how I had embraced
All that you hid behind your face
Could not hide from me
'Cause it hid in me too
Now that I'm here I hear you and wonder if maybe you can hear yourself
Ringing in me now that your somewhere else.
'Cause I hear your strange music gentle and true
Singing inside me with the best parts of you

Now that I'm here
I hope somewhere you here them too
Now that I'm here
I love you...

... it's OK, you can go now.

~ this song still haunts me every time I hear it

A CAUTION TO PLAGIARISTS

Just a little caution to anyone foolish enough to try stealing my thunder:

Someone once stole one my early poems.  They claimed it was theirs and won some contest... I was then powerless to prove it was mine.

Older and wiser, I DARE anyone to try that with me now.  I can prove in at least 3 ways that EVERYTHING I post is original.  Even though I may not hold the official copyright on all of my writing, I have been reassured by legal counsel, that while no one method of my personal copyright techniques would hold up in court, the combination of my safeguards are substantial enough to verify my authenticity.

THE WEED'S TALE

Just having a bit of fun here, showing a touch of diversity.  Not everything I write has to be heavy and serious, :)

The Weed's Tale

The weed aspires to become a flower,
Of any sort or shade.
Consistently tread upon, hour to hour-
What small beauty seems to swiftly fade.

Yet, there you remain, so battered and broken,
With firm, steady roots - prepare to stand tall!
Amidst adversity's grief, you keep one small token,
Despite deafening violence, you hear the sun's call.

They can chop, mow and stomp you down,
But in their endeavors to never succeed...
By roots and instinct - eternally bound,
To be the enduruing, tumultuous WEED!
